On 16 March 2023, Gethin Jones will embark on the longest continuous physical challenge he’s ever undertaken and super-sizing Morning Live’s popular Strictly Fitness feature. He will dance his way through the day and night to raise life-changing money for Red Nose Day who support those most in need.
Every hour, a different strictly pro or judge will take the lead and put Geth through his paces. And to spur him on, he’ll also be joined by some famous and friendly faces – including The One Show’s Alex Jones.
The One Show will also be dusting off its dance shoes for a Comic Relief special on Thursday 16th March. Where Alex, joined by a Strictly favourite, will shimmy and sway her way through that night’s live show to help Geth keep dancing. She’ll be the one in charge of the tempo, music and moves, will she go easy on Geth or put him in a spin? Chances of her going easy… pretty slim!
Other famous faces supporting Geth during his epic dance challenge include Tess Daly, Claudia Winkleman, Shirley Ballas, Anton Du Beke, Oti Mabuse, Janette Manrara, Kym Marsh, Helen Skelton, Dr Ranj and Dr Xand Van Tulleken, with many more exciting names to be announced in the coming weeks.
The hugely ambitious broadcast will begin during BBC Morning Live on the morning of Thursday the 16th March, and continue in the Morning Live studio throughout the day and night, finishing at 10am on Friday’s Morning Live on March 17th, Red Nose Day.
The stream will be viewable online, and via BBC iPlayer, with the audience able to interact with Gethin along the way, and of course, donate to Comic Relief.
Donations will be accepted by text and online. The only rule – Gethin MUST keep dancing for 24 hours!
Gethin says: “I cannot WAIT to get started on this epic Strictly Fitness challenge for Comic Relief. It’s going to be absolutely brutal, and take all I’ve got, but I’m doing everything I can to train and get ready for the big day, because I’m determined to raise as much money as possible.”
“I love Red Nose Day and everything they do for people going through the toughest times of their lives, in the UK and around the world. Every day on Morning Live we talk about, and hear, how much people are struggling right now. It’s never felt more important to throw everything into trying to help, and raise as much as we can for those who need it most. And hopefully, have a little fun along the way too. Well, maybe for the first hour!”
Samir Patel, CEO of Comic Relief, says: “Each year, we are completely blown away by the extraordinary lengths our celebrity supporters and partners will go to, to raise money to help others and this year is no exception. We are enormously grateful to Gethin and the Morning Live team for taking on this incredible 24-hour challenge for Red Nose Day at a time when donations have never felt more needed. We’re all rooting for you Gethin and here for you every step of the way!”
Gethin is taking on this challenge to raise money for Comic Relief, who work to support people facing the toughest times of their lives, both here in the UK and around the world and help them break free from poverty. The money raised will support people struggling with the cost-of-living crisis and tackle issues such as homelessness, mental health problems, and food poverty here in the UK and around the world.
The BBC’s Morning Live programme is the flagship daytime television programme for BBC One. Running for over two years, it’s a lighthearted mix of health, consumer, topical and lifestyle items, and an audience favourite. With consistent ratings of over 1.2 million viewers a day, it’s the most watched live daytime television programme.
